The Battle of Saratoga was an American victory during the Revolutionary War in the fall of 1777. To commemorate this battle and the impact it had on our nation's battle for independence, a memorial was constructed at the site of the battle: a magnificent 155-foot obelisk. The great stone structure, just 7 miles north of the battlefield, was in need of maintenance, since its last major restoration in 2000. The Onondaga Earth Corps spent four weeks repointing the monument's base, removing the failing pointing and chalking, and replacing it. This important work will ensure that this great monument will stand for - at least - another century.
